Using the Internet for SexElearning

By: Dr. Mitchell Tepper

Hi, I’m Dr. Mitchell Tepper, and I’m Assistant Director of the new Center of Excellence for Sexual Health at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m also the Managing Director of the Health and Science Advisory Board for HSAB.org, or you can find us at LoveAndHealth.info.

The title of my presentation at the First International Congress on Lifespan Sexuality Education is SexElearning.

What does SexElearning mean?
SexElearning is really just a play on words, and we’re looking at e-learning as a vehicle for delivering sexual health information using electronic media. So the Internet has really served as the perfect medium for sharing sexual health information and education online. The Internet is a sexy medium, or in this case, an attractive medium to get sexual health information, because it’s affordable, it’s accessible, and it’s anonymous.

Why is anonymity important?
Because the privacy of the Internet affords a safe environment for you to ask your most personal questions. The ability to get sexual health information online has given people heretofore unparalleled access to this information, and it is critical for many people to get this information, and it could be life-saving.

Closing statements…
I think what’s important to know about sexElearning is that having access to information online, in a private, anonymous format, can be life-enhancing, and even life-saving.
