Sex Museums and Sex Education

By: Dr. Liu Dalin

My name is Professor Liu Dalin. In the past, I worked at Shanghai University as a sociologist. Now, I am a sexologist, and my research work focuses on sexology. The title of my presentation is Sex Museums and Sex Education. Because now I have set up five sex museums in Mainland China, and I think that is very useful, especially useful in sex education. So I am attending the conference to explain the experience to my colleagues, and to develop it.

Why do you think sex museums are an important part of sex education?
Because in China, there are two paths of sex education. One is education of knowledge, and the second is education of personality. And I think if someone knows the knowledge of history, and understands the developing lore of sex, it will be very useful for their happy and healthy life.

Do you think other countries could benefit from sex museums?
I think there are close to 20 sex museums all over the world, but most of them are too commercial. I like to do work to make the museum academic.

What effect do your museums have on the general public?
Because in the past, most of the people think that sex is very mysterious, and after visiting our museum, they say sex is normal, and we must take a healthy attitude towards sex. Our ancestors were so open, and if present-day Chinese take a conservative attitude towards sex, this is not good.

Closing Statements…
I want people to know and understand our work, and welcome everybody to visit our museum.
