CONSULTS ON HBO SERIES “TELL ME YOU LOVE ME” |

The HSAB.org is proud to announce that Dr. June M. Reinisch is the expert consultant on the HBO series “Tell Me You Love Me,” created and written by Cynthia Mort. The series premieres on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 9pm. This hour-long dramatic series addresses the relationship and sexual problems of three couples, one in their 20s, one in their 30s and one in their 40s. The couples’ concerns are typical of those that are likely to be confronted by individuals during each of these eras over the lifespan of a long term relationship. The integrating element in the series is couples therapist Dr. May Foster, to whom each of the partners turns for help in dealing with their relationship difficulties.
What attracted Dr. Reinisch to consult on this series is its focus on the connection between problems that committed partners have in negotiating their lives together, and how these sometimes seemingly unrelated problems affect their sexuality as individuals and as couples. Of course, it is also the case that problems in the sexual arena can interfere with a couple’s happiness far from the bedroom, and this is explored as well. Ms. Mort’s scripts examine in detail the relationship between sexuality in all its forms and how couples relate to each other both in their everyday lives and in the therapist’s office. It is a highly erotic series, but unlike any other, the sexuality is placed within the rich context of each couple’s relationship, which the viewer comes to care about deeply. Simultaneously, the viewer learns the life stories of each individual through their communications with their partners, families and friends, and in the therapist’s office. Seeing and hearing what the characters do and say to each other within their lives and bedrooms, and then how they portray these same events in the therapist’s office is a new and not to be missed experience for anyone interested in relationships, therapy and sexuality. This is the first dramatic series of its kind and it is truly fascinating as well as educational. Cynthia Mort has acted as producer and writer for a number of popular TV series including Roseanne and Will & Grace. This is the first HBO project for which she developed the concept, written the first 10 episodes and guided the entire enterprise. Dr. Reinisch began working with Ms. Mort in 2002 consulting as an expert on psychology, sex research and therapy but it has taken more than four years to bring the series to the air. Prior to assuming the position as Executive Director of the Health and Science Advisory Board (HSAB.org), Dr. Reinisch was Director of The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction at Indiana University for 11 years and is now Director Emeritus and Senior Research Fellow. She is also a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Preventive Medicine, Copenhagen University, Denmark and Executive Vice President of Scientific Affairs at The Museum of Sex in New York City. Dr. Reinisch has authored or edited more than 150 scientific publications and wrote the educational book for the public, The Kinsey Institute New Report on Sex (St. Martins Press). Her consultation on this series is an extension of one of her paramount professional educational commitments, that is, to bring accurate scientific, research based information about sex, gender and reproduction to the public -- in this case, using entertainment as the vehicle. | ||
