Dr. Oyun attended medical school at Medical University in Irkutsk, Russia from 1986-1994 and graduated from Mongolian Medical University, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in 1995. As a medical doctor in Mongolia she worked for the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 1995-1999 as a Health Educator for the Health Management, Information and Education Center. In this role she was actively involved in the development of comprehensive sexuality education curriculum and its introduction to public schools. During her time with the Ministry of Health, Dr. Oyun spent the summer of 1998 as a Health Training Coordinator with the United States Peace Corps in Mongolia. Interest in public health programs brought her to the School of Public Health, State University of New York at Albany, NY where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Public Health in 2001 and served as Editor for the Editorial Committee, Open Society Institute, New York, NY. Currently, she is working on her doctorate in Human Sexuality at Widener University, Chester, PA.Since entering the doctorate program at Widener Dr. Oyun has had internships at Planned Parenthood of New York City and the Department of Health, Office of Medicaid Management, Albany, NY where she worked with and designed a handbook for parents with disabled children. She also returned to Mongolia to serve as a short-term training officer, UNFPA Field Office, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and then came back to the United States to work as a Sexual Assault Counselor for Women Organized Against Rape in Philadelphia. While at Women Organized Against Rape, she worked with a group of girls who were mentally challenged and were survivors of sexual abuse, conducting counseling sessions. In these sessions, she combined counseling and teaching about sexuality. In her home country of Mongolia she is a well-known sexuality educator who has delivered many trainings and workshops for teachers and adolescents and published professionally in that area. |
